Sources of the Month awake from hiatus

December 16, 2025

With the release of our new web pages, we are proud to announce that we’re also bringing back, after a 2-year hiatus, the much-loved H.E.S.S. Source of the Month. In December, this distinction is bestowed on the microquasar V4641 Sagittarii – see also the corresponding publication that has just been accepted in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics. Enjoy the read, and watch out for the next Source of the Month!

Fig. 1: Significance map of the region around V4641 Sgr. The colors indicate how likely it is the detected emission is real and not a fluctuation from the background. The circles indicate the angular resolution of H.E.S.S. and the smoothing scale used to derive the map.
