We are pleased to announce the creation of a new H.E.S.S. group at the Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planétologie (IRAP) in Toulouse, France. The IRAP has long-standing involvement in gamma-ray astronomy, with previous contributions to H.E.S.S., a strong research programme based on Fermi-LAT observations, and major activities in the construction and scientific preparation of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO).

The group is constituted of two experienced H.E.S.S. scientists who will continue to explore the gamma-ray sky with current-generation instruments, while contributing in parallel to the future of CTAO.

Quentin Remy, formerly a PostDoc at the MPI für Kernphysik in Germany, will pursue the development of Gammapy, the open-source Python package for gamma-ray astronomy, as well as the production of gamma-ray source catalogues. Paul Fauverge, who recently obtained his Ph.D. at LP2i Bordeaux, will continue to monitor and study novae in the gamma-ray domain.

A PhD position is expected to open in autumn 2027, focusing on joint H.E.S.S.–Fermi-LAT analyses and contributing to the scientific validation of CTAO, provided that the observatory’s construction progresses according to schedule.
